The Rite of Confirmation

During the Rite of Confirmation, a youth affirms the vows of Christian faith and discipleship that were made for them, when they were baptized as an infant or young child; the Pastor(s) and Elder lay on of hands; the congregation proclaims its support to their continual journey; and the youth becomes recognized as a full adult member of the congregation and Christian church.

The path to confirmation, involves participating in the confirmation classes.  During these classes we learn about the confirmation/baptismal vows; God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, prayer, and basic theological principals of our faith; mission and outreach; the history of the church from the first disciples to modern day; what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ; and more.

These classes are for both baptized and unbaptized teens and young adults who are interested in becoming members of the United Church of Christ of Robesonia.

The recommend starting age for the confirmation program is 8th grade.  Youth as young as 7th grade are welcome to participate.  Older teens and young adults are also very welcome to participate.  This is a two year program, which usually begins in September. It is highly recommended that interested teenagers start by or before 11th grade.

As a class, we meet just during the school year (not over the summer) about twice a month or so for about an hour and a half. At the beginning of the school year, we seek to meet with students and parents/guardians to develop a schedule that works well for all, and to go over the syllabus and class expectations.

For the scheduling of our next confirmation class, or for more information about these classes or the rite, please contact the Pastor(s) or church office.
